The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad secured three of the four central posts in this year's Delhi University Students' Union election, with Yash Dabas winning the presidency by defeating NSUI's Vijai Shankar Meena by a margin of 2,053 votes after polling 24,576 votes in the count.
The ABVP's sweep extended to the secretary and joint secretary posts. Riya Chhawdi won the secretary contest with 21,650 votes, beating NSUI's Namrata Chaudhary by 6,781 votes, while Lakshya Raj Singh took the joint secretary post for the party as well, rounding out a dominant showing across most of the contest.
The one post to escape the ABVP was vice president, which went to independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen, who polled 30,634 votes, the highest tally of any candidate in the election and a result that kept the union's leadership from being entirely in the hands of one organisation.
Reacting to his win, Dabas described the result as a victory built on harmony, patriotism and the collective strength of the Sangh, a framing that placed the ABVP's ideological roots at the centre of his message to students on campus.
The count itself followed a campaign period marked by tension, with the Delhi High Court having stepped in to bar victory processions after violence broke out during campaigning ahead of the vote, a restriction that shaped how the winning candidates and their supporters were able to celebrate once the results were declared.
