# Amazon Adds 13 Billion Dollars to Its India Plan, Taking the Total to 48 Billion

Amazon has proposed investing a further 13 billion dollars in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure in India, lifting its total commitment to 48 billion dollars between 2026 and 2030. The company announced a 35 billion dollar programme across its Indian businesses in 2025.

The new money expands AWS data centre capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Amazon said the capacity would give startups, enterprises and government bodies access to custom AI chips, managed AI services, cloud infrastructure and developer tools.

The announcement followed a meeting between chief executive Andy Jassy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday. Jassy said Amazon's priorities in India align with the country's own, listing wider access to AI, digitising small businesses, creating jobs and enabling exports.

Two things are worth separating in a number this size. A cloud investment is mostly buildings, power contracts and racks of hardware, and the jobs it creates directly are fewer than the figure suggests. The consequential part is who gets to build on top of it. Data centre capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad means Indian companies can train and serve models without sending data abroad, and that is a question of sovereignty and latency as much as economics.
