The agency had set up a committee to look into complaints of errors in the question papers for these three subjects, and it has now decided the papers will be conducted again rather than simply corrected on the existing answer sheets. The complaints were specific. Sociology candidates pointed to misspelled names of sociologists and faulty Hindi translations running through nearly half the paper, according to one candidate's account. English candidates went further, saying between 60 and 70 questions, including comprehension passages and poetry based items, were repeated almost word for word from the January 2025 UGC-NET paper, which would have given an unfair advantage to anyone who had already seen that set. NTA's usual process is to open a challenge window, where candidates pay a fee per question they dispute and the agency corrects the key where a challenge holds up. For the other 84 subjects, that window runs from August 16 to 18. The decision to hold fresh exams for English, Sociology and Commerce instead marks a different route, one the agency has used before when errors were judged too widespread to fix through the challenge process alone.
