Nvidia and South Korea's SK Group announced an initiative worth more than 500 billion dollars on Friday, covering large scale AI data centres and next generation memory, according to Nvidia.

The memory half is a long term partnership with SK Hynix to secure next generation supply for Nvidia and to jointly develop high bandwidth memory for AI training, AI agents and physical AI applications. Memory has become the binding constraint on accelerator output, so a supply agreement of this length is as strategic as any manufacturing deal.

The data centre half is where the scale becomes legible. SK Telecom plans to build a two gigawatt AI data centre running Nvidia's Vera Rubin chips and SK Hynix's HBM4 memory, with the first facility due online in 2027. Nvidia separately said it, Naver and Brookfield plan to expand Naver's existing AI data centre in South Korea.

Two gigawatts is the number to hold onto. It is a power station's worth of continuous demand committed to a single computing site, and it explains why AI infrastructure announcements are increasingly negotiated with grid operators and state governments before they are announced to customers.
